Soup du Jour Is French Onion

If the only time you’ve ever eaten French Onion soup is in a restaurant, you are in for a treat.  The typical French Onion soup that is offered by most restaurants is a mediocre rendition of homemade crock pot French onion soup.  Homemade French Onion soup is richer, beefier, swimming with onions, and topped with your favorite bread and Parmesan cheese.  What could be tastier?  When you control the ingredients, you know it’s good.

My family has a number of favorite crock pot recipes, mostly chilis, soups, stews, and stroganoffs.  Of all the soups we make, French Onion is the most surprising.  Who would think that just onion, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, bread and cheese would make a filling and satisfying meal?  When I was growing up, we had some type of French Onion soup at least once or twice a month.  The cheese we used on top would vary depending on what was in the refrigerator, but the classic recipe remained the same.  For an adult dinnertime, try this rich dark soup with a glass of red wine.  You’ll feel like you’ve just dined at the finest five-star restaurant.
