An Urban Garden is a garden that uses the least possible space and produces the most it can in that space.  Though there are many that claim to be the ultimate Urban Garden, I find that the Original Urban Garden is extremely hard to beat!  It is 6 tiers in a space of 4feet x 3 feet that can hold up to 54 plants with a tremendous yield for the space it takes.  Since it is made of cedar it can easily be organic if you decide to follow the organic rules in regard to pesticides, fertilizer, soil and any other chemical or treatment you are considering.

The cedar is a natural pest barrier to start with so you are ahead of the pest situation to begin with and as long as you use a good soil and follow the planting instructions, you should be good to go.  These type of raised garden beds are great for inner city gardening since they don’t take up much space and can be placed on balconies and most decks as long as they structures can support the weight.  There are light weight soils for this application at your local hardware store.  Once you garden in a raised bed you will never go back to the backbreaking gardening of tilling and hoeing.  Just give it a try!
